GREEN FOR GO
National Car Rental takes steps to reduce emissions and congestion
National Car Rental is tackling congestion and reducing its emissions by expanding its environmentally friendly solution for the delivery and collection of rental cars to and from its corporate customers. Motorised scooters are stored in the boot of the car during delivery, for staff to ride away on rather than using a second vehicle. When the car is collected, the same happens in reverse, ie. a scooter is used to reach the location, then the driver simply packs the scooter in the back of the car and drives back to the branch. The scheme is now being used at 23 locations across the UK with the recent addition of Brighton and Barking, and there are plans to expand further in 2007. The scooters are being used in urban locations to help reduce congestion, which is a major concern across towns and cities in the UK. In addition, fewer emissions will be produced, making the system much more environmentally friendly.
Ron Santiago, Vice President of UK Operations at National Car Rental, comments, “National’s growing use of this approach is an illustration of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact as much as possible. The scooters are very eco-friendly and will contribute towards reducing congestion in towns and cities. This is a very important part of our drive to care for the environment and we hope to expand the initiative to include even more UK locations in 2007.”
ENDS January 2007
