Fort LauderdaleSituated 23 miles north of Miami, Fort Lauderdale is Florida’s water capital. Bordered by the Atlantic, Fort Lauderdale is known as the “Venice of America” thanks to its expansive canal network. In addition, the city has seven miles of beaches, is home to the nation’s third biggest cruise port, Port Everglades, and is a major yachting centre supporting 42,000 resident yachts across its 100 marinas and boatyards. Three forts within the city limits give and share the city’s name. Fort Lauderdale is served by three airports: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is located in neighbouring Dania Beach and is the city’s primary airport. Nearby Miami International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport also serve the city. Broward County is served by three major Interstate Highways: 75, 95 and 595 - along with several US Highways. It is also served by Florida’s Turnpike and State Highway 869 (the Sawgrass Expressway). The National Car Rental branch in Fort Lauderdale is at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
