Syracuse

Named after the Sicilian city of the same name, the university city of Syracuse is situated on a rise at the southern end of Lake Onondaga in the county of Onondaga. Syracuse has been referred to as the “crossroads of New York State” because of its central location and the fact that the state’s two main interstate routes – I-81 and I-90 (New York State Thruway) – intersect here. The Syracuse airport is the largest in the region and the city comprises 26 neighborhoods.

Syracuse city centre is relatively flat, but its outlying districts and southern parts are hilly. Known for its snowfall in winter, Syracuse is almost permanent holder of the annual Golden Snowball Award which is presented to the Upstate New York city with the most snowfall in a season.

Home to the Columbus Monument in Columbus Circle, the city also boasts parks, flower gardens, home grown architecture and the Carousel Centre shopping mall to satisfy all your retail needs. Visit Armory Square for restaurants, shopping, pubs and clubs; Little Italy for bakeries, restaurants and pizzerias and Westcott for a cultural fix – the Westcott Street Cultural Fair takes place here every September.

National Car Rental in Syracuse is located on Colonel Eileen Collins Boulevard at Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
