Cancellation Charges

We will not charge for reservations cancelled 7 days or more before your pick up time. If you cancel your booking after this time, the following charges apply:

• If you cancel your booking less than 7 days before pick up time, you will be charged either the full cost of your booking or up to a maximum of £20 whichever is the lesser.
• If you cancel your booking less than 24 hours before your pick up time, you will be charged either the full cost of your booking or up to a maximum of £50, whichever is the lesser.

In the event of a cancellation, your credit card will be refunded, less the above charge.

No-shows & late or early arrivals

Your vehicle will be held for 2 hours from the specified reserved time. After this time we cannot guarantee a vehicle will be available upon arrival.

For all airport bookings, however, where a flight number has been supplied the vehicle will be held until the flight has landed and cleared. Where a flight delay results in a customer arriving after the station closing time a member of staff will wait for the flight to land and clear. If the delay is in excess of one hour after the station closing time an out of hours fee may apply. Where no flight number has been supplied we will hold the vehicle for a period of up to 2 hours or until station closing time, which ever is the earlier. Staff will not wait beyond closing time where no flight number is supplied.

When booking your vehicle please ensure the dates entered are correct, if your circumstances change and you require the vehicle on different dates/times please amend your reservation online.

Customers who arrive 1 day or more early at our rental stations with a reservation that does not match the current date will not be able to use the reservation reserved online. The branch may be able to offer an alternate reservation but please note the rates will not match the online reservation.

If you fail to collect your car on the specified pick-up date, we reserve the right to charge a no-show fee of either the cost of the booking or up to a maximum of £50, whichever is the lesser. In the event of a no-show, your credit card will be refunded, less the no-show charge.

Unused Rental Days

Please note that any unused rental days on prepaid reservations are non-refundable.

Rules and regulations - check before you travel

If you are planning to drive to abroad, you will need to be aware of your responsibilities to follow driving laws in your destination country. We strongly recommend you make your own investigations before travelling.

Driving abroad in Winter conditions

Whilst driving abroad in winter conditions, legally some countries will have restrictions on the equipment a vehicle should carry or have fitted, this can include snow tyres. Whilst driving abroad its important to adhere to the driving laws in that country. Failure to do so could result in a fine or temporary loss of your vehicle. Snow tyres and snow chains are available to hire for an additional fee and must be requested at time of booking. For online bookings where the pick-up country specified requires snow tyres a charge will normally be added to your reservation and these will be fitted to the vehicle. However, if you are planning to drive cross-border please check country requirements and request equipment be added to your reservation where appropriate by contacting our Call Centre.

We strongly recommend you make your own investigations as to whether or not you will require any additional winter equipment before travelling abroad. The RAC website (www.rac.co.uk/driving-abroad) provides additional information and tips on driving abroad.

Costa Rica - National

Additional Driver Policy

Additional drivers are allowed at a cost of $5.00 USD per day.

Age Requirements

$0 for underage driver. Minimum 18 No Maximum age. Drivers between the ages of 18-21 are not eligible to purchase Loss Damage Waiver Deductible Protection (LDWD) or Full Coverage Protection (SCV1)

Cross Border Policy

Renters wishing to visit Nicaragua must prearrange at time of rental, for a vehicle exchange at the Costa Rica/ Nicaragua border.  A three (3) day  minimum  notice is required. Customers can only rent the following vehicles: MCMR, CCMR & CFMR. Upon vehicle exchange at the border, the original agreement is closed and a second rental agreement is issued by National Nicaragua (same rate is applied).  A vehicle exchange fee totaling $50 USD is assessed; $25 charged by Costa Rica when the original agreement is closed plus $25 charged by Nicaragua when the new agreement is opened.  When the renter returns to Costa Rica, the same process applies plus an additional $50 exchange fee.  Renters not planning to return to Costa Rica must notify the rental location in Costa Rica when prearranging the vehicle exchange.

Delivery / Collection

Free delivery /collection to/from hotels within 20 kms. of rental office.  Anything outside of 20 kms. will be subject to a charge depending of how far the hotel is from the closest National station. The charge may range from $20-$150 USD. Pick-up & Drop off is also available during general business hours.There are no pick-up or returns after normal operating hours. Free airport pick-up/drop-off between the San Jose International  Airport and the city of Alajuela. Free airpot pick-up/drop-off between the Liberia  International Airport to nearby National location.

Insurance Excess

LDW (Mandatory for certain car groups or if no proof of credit card coverage) Loss Damage Waiver includes TP & SLC (Suplemental Liability Coverage). If LDW is declined, the customer will be responsible for the full value of the damage / loss due to accident or theft.  To decline LDW for all vehicles except the FVMR, customers must pay with a credit card that includes the coverage; Costa Rica must be able to confirm LDW is included. Credit card coverage does not cover SLC. If LDW is declined, SLC is mandatory. LDW is mandatory on group FVMR and cannot be declined. The cost is as follows:  $10.00 per day - MCMR, ECMR, CCMR, CCAR, ICMR, ICAR, CFMR, IFMR$13.00 per day - FCAR, SFMR & SFAR$18.00 per day - FFMR, FFAR, PFMR, PFAR & FVMR SLC (Optional but Mandatory if LDW is declined) $10 USD per day for all groups. Supplemental Liability Coverage covers the client's liability to third parties resulting from auto accident in rented vehicle for property damage, other than to the rental vehicle, up to $11,000 USD. SLC also provides accidental death and medical expense benefits resulting from an accident for the amount established by a Costa Rican court of up to $90,000 USD per person and up to $225,000 USD per accident for third parties. SLC does not cover the renter, relatives, any immediate household members, nor other passengers (in the rental vehicle). $250 SLC deductible. SLC is only mandatory if LDW is declined. SCV1 (Optional) Full Coverage Protection includes LDW, LDWD & SLC. The cost is as follows: $27 per day MCMR, ECMR, CCMR, CCAR, ICMR, ICAR $32 per day CFMR, IFMR, SFMR $37 per day SFAR $47 per day FFMR, FFAR, PFMR, PFAR & FVMR 

License Requirements

Full and Valid Driver's License from country of origin. Should your driving license not be resident to the country of origin of your booking we reserve the right to charge an appropriate rate for your country of residence.

One Way Rentals

A $50.00 USD dropcharge is applied to one-way rentals from city to city. Please see drop chart

Out of Hours Policy

Payment Policy

Passport, Return Ticket and Major credit card. All major credit cards are accepted (AMEX/Diners Club/Master Card/Visa).  Vouchers, MCO's and OTTO's are accepted. An authorization of $800-$1500  will be placed on the credit card at time of rental. Authorization depends on car class. This is returned at the end of the rental in the even that there are no damages to the rental vehicle.  The authorization will be placed on the credit card regardless if the customer purchases the deductible protection or not. No cash rentals are accepted. 

Refuelling Policy

All vehicles are supplied full and must be returned the same or refueling charges will apply. The amount is the cost of fuel plus 100%. 

Roadside Assistance

Contact nearest location within Costa Rica.  Client can also contact the Corporate Headquarters @ 506-242-7878. In the case of an accident, customer must complete a police report at time of incident.

Special Equipment

Child/Toddler seats/infant seats:$6.00 USD/day   GPS: $12 USD/day are available to rent in San Jose Intl Airport & Liberia Intl Airport. Replacement fee of $350.00 USD if the GPS is damageed or not returned
