Things to See and Do in Romania

There's no shortage of things to do in Romania throughout the year. Step into the past as you visit the Transylvanian city of Sibiu, with its cobbled streets and its stunning architecture. Enjoy a wealth of cultural festivities held here throughout the year, such as the Potters Fair, the Opera Festival, the Theatre Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Classical Music Festival, the ASTRA International Film Festival and the Annual Harvest Festival. The Hard Enduro Rally also takes place here every summer. Should Sibiu be on your itinerary in winter, be sure to drop by the Great Square for the annual Christmas Market, the country's largest fair.

A Holiday by Car in Romania

When you've had your fill of Romanian folk fests, avail yourself of our cheap car rental services and drive up north to Bucovina, the land of beech trees. The countryside is dotted with monasteries, the most well-known and colourful being Voroneț, Putna, Humor and Sucevița.

While most of Romania is up to speed with the latest technology, some regions remain defiantly nostalgic. One such example is Maramureș. With bucolic scenery, wooden churches and authentic traditional costumes at every turn, this is Romania at its finest. For wickedly good fun, drop by the Merry Cemetery, but be sure to bring a local friend to translate for you. Don't worry about getting there – with our award-winning customer service, you'll be behind the wheel and on your way to a blissful holiday in no time flat.

Famous Road Trips to Take in Romania

The Transfăgărășan – if you can say it, then you can drive across it. Top Gear once dubbed it the world's best road trip, and you'd be hard-pressed to prove them wrong. Also known as the DN7C, this road runs through the highest mountains in the Southern Carpathians, Făgăraș Mountains, connecting some of the highest peaks in the country. It's 56 miles long, and it climbs up to 6,699 feet. It's riddled with hairpin turns and sharp descents, perfect for making your car rental worthwhile, and it's especially impressive in summertime.

Further west lies Transalpina, aka DN67C. It's Romania's highest road, reaching a whopping 7,037 feet above sea level at its highest point. It's also far less travelled than DN7C, and it offers splendid views of the Parâng Mountains.
